Topic: Fairy Tales Contexts: School, Recreational Areas: ICT, materials, structures
Year 1-3 Level One
Situation: We have read many fairy tales and would like to present our groups favourite one to our syndicate
Design Brief: prepare, present and retell a fairy tale in an interesting way to our syndicate
Specifications: - use an OHP
- use materials provided
- all the group must be involved
- show planning
- must be retold in your own words
- time limit of 4 minutes
Technological Knowledge and Understanding
Objective: Level 1:4 share ideas about some ways in which familiar technological developments are communicated
Learning Experiences:

1. look at how an OHP can be used
2. identify correct procedures for using OHP
3. read several fairytales and choose 2, write a description
4. discuss in a group which is the most appropriate fairytale for your presentation 
5. identify the different ways technology is used to present information
6. experiment with the OHP, place objects on the screen and observe the images made

Technological Capability
Objective: Level 1:6a share ideas about possible solutions and strategies and choose a practicable option
Learning Experiences:

1. discuss and decide on best method of presenting
2. assign roles to everybody in the group
3. draft a retold version 
4. plan resources that need to be made
5. prepare presentation
6. perform to syndicate

Technology and Society
Objective: Level 1:7 share their reasons for their choice of technological activity
Learning Experiences:

1. survey favourite fairytales (ask other children, parents, teachers and grandparents)
2. itemise choices and provide a reason for choosing selected option

Assessment Task:
survey other children and teachers and ask them what is their favourite fairytale and why. Itemise the choices and make a decision as to why you chose a particular fairytale. Each group will present ideas to class

Assessment Task:
look at how an OHP can be used. Discuss correct procedures for use. Experiment with functions of OHP, record findings (teacher can be listening to a tape recording or a video of children's discussions)

identify and discuss ways in which a specific technology (OHP) is communicated and promoted
