Photo frame examples, materials collected for frames, art supplies of glue, scissors, craft knives.

Situation: We have taken digital photos of ourselves at school doing the things we most enjoy. We have written a message and would like to give this photo in a frame to our parents for Christmas.
Design Brief: Design a frame that will enhance and complement your photograph.
Specifications: needs to be stable, be the right size for the photo, be able to be stood up or hung, suit the theme of our photo, show off our photo attractively
Technological Knowledge and Understanding
Objective: Level 2:3 describe how particular groups of people carry out technological activities such as picture framers
Learning Experiences:
  1. collect a variety of frames (from home, magazines, trip to local framing shop) to identify styles, structures and decorations. Discuss what sort of frames would suit their photos
  2. visit a local framer, prepare questions to ask about frames. Prepare flow chart recording the stages of how frames can be made
  3. pull apart old frames and identify different parts and how they stand up and/or are hung
Technological Capability
Objective: Level 1:6c discuss their ideas, intentions, progress and outcomes with others
Learning Experiences:
  1. identify what sort of materials and tools will be needed
  2. make a plan that illustrates how the frame will look, what the specifications are, what the measurements are and what materials will need to be used
  3. make a mock up frame using cartridge paper, test according to specifications
  4. present finished plan and mock up to group and teacher for feedback
  5. use materials to make final product
Technology and Society
Objective: Level 2:8 explore and compare the roles of some example of technology in daily life in their own and another time or place
  1. ask parents, relatives, teenagers what do they look for in a frame. Prepare a questionnaire that identifies what people like and why
  2. discuss what pictures are specially framed at home and at school and for what purpose
