Wikis, blogs and cool Web2.0 tools

Create a class website with individual pages for your children to showcase their work. Use the free tools available on the internet to make this happen. Experiment with free software that will publish your students’ work in ways you have never seen before. Identify the tools that you are going to be able to use with your students in the class. Find out how simple this can be and transform the teaching, learning and assessment in your classroom practice.

You will need to have examples of student’s work on your laptop this can be any WordProcessed documents, Word, PowerPoints, Keynotes; photos of art work, handwriting samples, test results; Kidspiration and Inspiration documents, in fact any work they have completed. Please bring laptops with all leads and ensure that your laptop is not blocked to receiving wireless connection.

Find out what widgets and gadgets are available for education use  to bring your blog alive. Discuss what content could be added and how it can be presented in many different ways. Personalise your wiki/blog so it reflects the message you are sending.

Pre-requisite: You must already have a blog and/or a wiki that you are working on.

You have a mimio in the classroom but you are not sure how to use it for teaching and learning purposes. Find out how you can use the mimio, mimio software and other software on your computer to develop activities and teaching models using the interactive properties of the mimio hardware.

101 ways to Digital Cameras

Find out how to use your school digital or digital video camera in an innovative child-centered integrated setting, by learning how to use the features on your own school or personal camera. Use this new found knowledge to take part in a variety of activities and develop a bank of activities that can be used in your school at your own particular level. See how a variety of software can be used with digital cameras. Some of the software that could be used is Microsoft Office, Kidspiration or Inspiration, KidPix and movie making software such as MovieMaker (Windows) and iMovie (Mac)

The 21st Classroom: Digital Technology Integration

There are several steps and stages teachers need to go through to fully integrate ICT into all teaching and learning. Some of these stages revolve around a complete change in teaching style. Participants will see examples of teaching and learning at the different stages that will illustrate how this can be achieved in the classroom. This course will assist you in establishing where you are at on the continuum and identify what you need to do to develop yourself as an ICT literate classroom practitioner.

Get to know your Laptop

Learn how to operate and navigate in Windows XP, Vista or Apple OS10.

Participants will learn how to find programmes, organise folders and files, perform basic troubleshooting and find out how to do basic computer maintenance. See how to save to computer, CD and memory sticks. Learn how to put music on your laptops and organise and find your photos. Finally learn some tips and tricks when working with Word.

Organise your computer files and folders

Having difficulty finding files? Need to organise them into folders? Can’t find your photos? Not sure how to save and then find it all again? This half day course is suitable for participants who need to organise their computers.

Higher Order Thinking & Graphic Organisers

Integrate Higher Order Thinking and ICT by looking at the software that can be used to develop and organise thinking skills and processes through using a myriad of graphic organisers. See how ICT can be used with Revised Blooms Taxonomy and Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences and how complex ideas can be communicated through the use of software. Use this new information to develop ideas for  units of work that can be used in the classroom.

PowerPoint

Know the basics in PowerPoint XP, 2003, 2004 or 2007 or just starting out? This course will take you through from the first setting up of PowerPoint slideshow to all the bells and whistles that will tastefully enhance your presentations. Learn how to hyperlink to other programmes and the internet. Experience how you can insert photos, movies and sounds to create a dynamic slideshow. Prepare a presentation that you can use back in your classroom.

PowerPoint and Keynote can be great

You just have to be a 'bit' creative!

Given the choice of presenting digitally, PowerPoint (or Keynote for Macs) is the most widely used presentation tool in classrooms. Consequently, it is also a tool that is used in limited ways such as a linear regurgitation of facts slideshow with animations and sound effects.

But slideshows can be made exciting, informative and interesting just by how the information is presented and delivered. They can be used as a teaching and learning tool and this course will provide you with the skills to create dynamic, interactive learning opportunities for your students.

A basic knowledge of how to create PowerPoint or a Keynote presentation is a pre-requisite of this course.

Junior Literacy

ICT integrated into Literacy will encourage even the most reluctant reader or writer to become more interested and motivated to read or write. Using software such as Kidspiration, KidPix, Word or PowerPoint can enhance your literacy programme and give students another choice of how to develop new ideas. In this course you can create Writing and Reading activities for the classroom and experiment with WordProcessing and multimedia software to see how it can be used in the literacy Programme.
 

Senior Literacy

ICT integrated into Literacy will encourage even the most reluctant reader or writer to become more interested and motivated to read or write. Using software such as Inspiration, Reason!Able, Word or PowerPoint can enhance your literacy programme and give students another choice of how to develop new ideas. In this course you can create Writing and Reading activities for the classroom and experiment with WordProcessing and multimedia software to see how it can be used in the literacy Programme.
 

 Learning Stories

Learn to create learning stories using a variety of ICT tools and programmes. Use shortcuts and learn some tips and tricks to enhance your stories. Find out how to use formatting tools, graphics and photos in creative ways to create exciting and informative reports.

This course will show you how to use the software and integrate it together into iMovie and iDVD to make an original film that showcases all of you and your students’ talent. Requirements: Bring your own laptop, digital camera or/and digital video camera and leads, music CDs, photos and video footage. Please ensure that you have the latest version of the software and any digital camera software loaded.
