Topic: Water (refreshing drinks) Contexts: School,  Personal Areas: Food Technology, Biotechnology
Year 1-6 Level One, Two, Three
Situation: in our science study we have looked at the states of water and how water can change with different additives and environments
Design Brief: create a healthy, original and palatable drink using water as your base
Specifications: - must be original
- must be healthy
- use ingredients provided
- restricted to one litre
- must be able to be stored easily
- must be visually appealing
Technological Knowledge and Understanding
Objective: Level 1:1ask questions and offer ideas about the use and operation of everyday technologies
Objective: Level 2:1 explore and discuss the use and operation of technologies in everyday use
Objective: Level 3:1 investigate and describe the use and operation of technologies in an everyday setting
Learning Experiences:

1. investigate what makes a healthy yet refreshing drink
2. identify, record and compare ingredients from commercially made drinks that mix with water
3. identify and list the ingredients that make up a healthy drink
4. experiment with different states of water with freezing and evaporation and additives (cornflour, sugar, drink mix, spirulina etc)
5. examine effects on water when ice is added

Technological Capability
Objective: Level 1:6d describe and discuss how they feel about what they are accomplished
Objective: Level 2:6d describe how satisfied they are with their progress and outcomes, and how well they are achieving the intended solution
Objective: Level 3:6d review decisions and progress, assessing how satisfied they are with their strategies and outcomes

Learning Experiences:

1. develop a plan that demonstrates the process of preparing your drink
2. collect resources and make the drink
3. present solutions and modify them according to responses
4. evaluate process and and outcome, consider the marketing possibilities

Technology and Society
Objective: Level 1:8 share ideas about the ways in which familiar technologies affect their lives
Objective: Level 2:8 explore and compare the roles of some example of technology in daily life in their own and another time and place
Objective: Level 3:8 describe and identify the positive and negative effects of some instances of technologies on people's lives and the environment
Learning Experiences:

1.discuss how and why we need to keep some foods cold and other food hot
2. survey adults to find out what precautions they take to store food
3. survey others to find out their preferences for refreshing drinks
4. identify different technologies used to store food i.e. in supermarket (fridges and freezers, chicken rotisseries, mussels etc)

Assessment
