Technological Knowledge

Assess

Technological Products

Understand that there is a relationship between the material and performance properties of technological products

Learning Experiences: (examine, identify, discuss, collect, observe, compare, read, describe)

Listen to the song ‘My Favourite Things’ (Julie Andrew)

List what are their favourite things (‘What are some of my favourite things’ Kidspiration diagram)

Discuss what a Time Capsule is (Show Buried for 50 years time capsule). Discuss what was good and not so good about this Time Capsule. Identify what sort of container is best for storing items for a long time.

Write a letter telling people about yourself and your life

Write Five things I wish for and Five things I have accomplished (Kidspiration diagram)

Technological Practice

Assess

Planning for Practice

Develop a plan that identifies the key stages and the resources required to complete an outcome

Learning Experiences: (generate, select, develop, adapt, present, test & evaluate, draw, model, plan)

bullet decide what sort of container you would like to turn into a time capsule
bullet decide on materials that you would like to use
bullet draw a plan of what you are going to include in the time capsule
bullet collect all the items and make your time capsule
bullet seal your time capsule, present to the class explaining what your put in there and why

Nature of Technology

Characteristics of technology

Understand that technology is purposeful intervention through design.

Learning Experiences: (impacts, cultural values, attitudes, behaviour, preferences, beliefs & values)

bullet explain to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and other children what a time
capsule is
bullet ask these same people if they could choose 5 items what would they choose and
why?
bullet Record their answers and look for similarities, make a group statement about the most commonest item and speculate as to why that was chosen
