Resources: environmental materials, marbles, cardboard and paper, pens and papers, marble games (Kerplunk), pictures of marble games. Display of Board games. How do you play this game (Word or Kidspiration file), Marble game photos (in folder) Things we like and don’t like Kidspiration activity |
|||
|
Learning Intentions/Outcomes: able to verbalise what features make a good game, able to describe what their game will look like identifying attributes and explain how to play it |
|||
|
Situation/Setting the Scene: The children in our class would like some new wet day activities. They are not allowed to play marbles in the school but they would like a game that includes marbles. |

Technological Knowledge Assess Technological Modelling Understand that functional models are used to represent reality and test design concepts and that prototypes are used to test technological outcomes. |
Learning Experiences: (examine, identify, discuss, collect, observe, compare, read, describe) · Investigate a variety of board games, discuss what things you like about the games o look at Marble game pictures (Word or Kidspiration activities) and decide how you would play those games o identify what things you would like to use in your marble game · experiment with the properties of marbles (push and pull) o try the marbles out on different surfaces o make some ramps to try the marbles on
·
identify what features make a game successful and not so successful
(Things we like and don’t like Red and Black Hat Kidspiration activity) |

Technological Practice Assess Brief Development
Describe the outcome they are developing and identify the attributes it should have, taking account of the need / opportunity and the resources available. |
Learning Experiences:(generate, select, develop, adapt, present, test & evaluate, draw, model, plan) · decide in a group of four what sort of game you would like to make and why · present a proposal to the class (include a drawing, use Game Proposal file ) (Assessment) · ask for class feedback · decide on materials that you would like to use · make preferred solution |

|
Nature of Technology Characteristics of technology Understand that technology is purposeful intervention through design.
|
Learning Experiences:
(impacts, cultural values, attitudes, behaviour, preferences, beliefs &
· ask friends and family about the types of games they are enjoy playing, · pick a particular culture and investigate what games they play · play 2 different games from the games display and discuss with your group what features you liked or disliked. · Come to a consensus about what makes a game fun |
