Topic: Creating a Web page Contexts: School, business & personal Areas: Information and Communication, Production and Process
Year 6-8 Level Three
Situation: we have been invite to be part of an Internet link with other schools but we need to be able to provide up to date and on-going information about our school
Design Brief: create a web page that will inform and provide an up to date link with other schools linked to the Internet. Itemise the specifications needed to create a page that reflects your school character
Specifications: children write their own specifications
Technological Knowledge and Understanding
Objective: Level 3:4 identify and compare the ways particular technoligical developments are communicated and promoted to specific groups
Learning Experiences:

1. compare a personal home page, a business page and a school web page. Prepare a chart that compares similarities and differences
2. choose 2 similarities and 2 differences and explain why the creators designed the web pages with those features
3. investigate all the jargon used and find definitions
4. look at examples of other school web sites, categorise which are the ones you like. What particular features make them appealing
5. investigate Web designing software and try out some of the features

Technological Capability
Objective: Level 3:6a explore possible solutions and strategies and select appropriate options justifying their decisions
Learning Experiences:

1. write a list of specifications, these will need to include promotional aspects of the web page
2. devise a list of all resources that will be needed
3. prepare at least 3 different proposals
4. prepare a PMI on the possibilities and select a solution, identify why this could be the best solution
5. collect resources and prepare a draft storyboard of web page and links
6. present draft web pages to Staff, students and Board of Trustees to receive feedback

Technology and Society
Objective: Level 3:7 identify and consider different views and feelings of people in relation to some specific technological developments or effects
Learning Experiences

1. interview a selection of people who have their own web page. Develop a set of questions that will provide you with the information of  'Who has a web page and why?'
2. Survey a number of people to find out their attitudes towards the internet. In your summation identify common points of view
3. Mindmap significant features that give your school its identity
4. From the list of factors from the above activity choose the type of things that would promote your school on a web page
5. What do you think web pages could look like in the future and what things could they possibly do?
