Topic: Treats for Mum Contexts: Personal, Home Areas: Production & Process
Year 1-3 Level One
Situation: We are going to make a nice treat for Mum for Mother's Day and we would like to include how we made it so we can make it again at home
Design Brief: Make the treat and carefully observe and record all the steps in making it. Present the information as part of the gift for Mum
Specifications: - display the steps of the process
- there must be 6 steps in the process
- must have packaging
- can be recorded as pictures
Technological Knowledge and Understanding
Objective: Level 1:2b ask questions and share ideas about familiar technological systems
Learning Experiences:

1. look at how recipe books are organised, identify how recipes are written, illustrated etc
2. select a recipe to make
3. look at examples of packaging, identify the materials used, record information
4. look at magazines, cut and paste onto a chart good examples of packaging for presents
5. select the best method of packaging and draw a plan of it

Technological Capability
Objective: Level 1:6c discuss their ideas, intentions, progress and outcomes with others
Learning Experiences:

1. carefully observe the making process (with younger children you will need adult helpers)
2. discuss and record ideas, progress and steps in 6 stages, record these stages
3. plan the final presentation of information as a Mother's Day Card
4. present final decisions and justify methods and outcomes to class

Technology and Society
Objective: Level 1:7 share their reasons for their choice of technological activity
Learning Experiences:

1. discuss with others what is your favourite sweet
2. survey Mum, Dad, friends and family 'what are their favourite sweets?'
3. decide on which is the best recipe to make by discussing in groups their preferences and their family preferences

Assessment Task:
discuss in groups and record own ideas, progress and steps in 6 stages, record information and report back to rest of group or class
