Topic: Survival kit Contexts: recreational and Environmental Areas: Materials
Year 1-6 Level One and Two
Situation: we are going on a school trip to the bush. We need to be prepared for every conceivable incident
Design Brief: investigate and prepare an emergency and survival kit for bush safety
Specifications: - must be portable
- must fit into a shoe box
- must be waterproof
- must include strategies for the basic requirements of survival
- must provide a written guide to survival and inventory of the pack
Technological Knowledge and Understanding
Objective: Level 1.3 share ideas about how a particular group of people carry out technological activities such as emergency services
Level 2:3 describe how particular groups of  people carry out technological systems such as emergency services
Learning Experiences:

1. investigate what sort of equipment emergency services are expected to carry
2. collect examples of items you expect in a survival kit
3. view survival videos
4. describe the use and operation of certain survival items
5. list specific bush survival rules and techniques

Technological Capability
Objective: Level 1:6c discuss their ideas, intentions, progress and outcomes with others
Level 2:6c show and describe examples of their intentions, progress and outcomes to others
Learning Experiences:

1. select survival items and itemise
2. plan and design suitable container
3. role play a survival situation and test out each others survival kits
4. from test check that all requirements that have been identified are covered

Technology and Society
Objective: Level 1:8 share ideas about the ways in which familiar technologies affect their lives
Objective: Level 2:8 explore and compare the roles of some example of technology in daily life in their own and in other time and place
Learning Experiences:

1. survey people as to what items they keep in home, car and boat for accidents and emergencies
2. research stories from journals, books, newspapers, articles about survival stories and identify what technologies they used to cope in a survival situation

Assessment
Objective L:2:6c show and describe examples of their intentions, progress and outcomes to others Assessment Task:
role play a survival situation and test out each others survival kits.
From test check that all requirements that have been identified are covered
Achieving at Level 3
present designs, plans, and outcomes to selected groups, using suitable means of communication
Achieving at Level 2
show and describe examples of their intentions, progress and outcomes to others
