Situation:

Our ancestors used to gather food from the sea with instruments that are not used today.

Design Brief:

Seniors – Produce a resource as an archive of how our ancestors gathered food.

Juniors-Create an ancient food gathering implement

 

Specifications:
bullet Size must be no bigger than a shoe box
bullet Must be sturdy and easily carried
bulletUse environmental materials
 
Resources: Flax, Kid Pix, Videos, Books, Websites, Museums, MOTAT, Learning Centre Materials, Knives, Scissors, Experts, Whanau, Inspiration files
Technological Knowledge and Understanding
Objective: Level 1.3 share ideas about how a particular group of people carry out technological activities such as emergency services
Level 2:3 describe how particular groups of  people carry out technological systems such as emergency services
Learning Experiences:
bullet What do we know chart (brainstorm using Inspiration and Kidspiration)
bullet How do we gather food today? List all the different ways we collect food today.
bullet Visit the Auckland museum, prepare a recording instrument to document what new information you learn on that day
bullet How did our ancestors gather food/preserve food (research this by using the Inspiration/Kidspiration Research file.       Assess
bullet Survey parents/whanau of how food was gathered
bullet Add all the previous information to a time line to show the changes and comparisons in food gathering/preserving
bullet Discuss and identify aspects of gathering in tidal zones and mangroves
