Task Six

Writing

Click on the Writing site at the British Museum. There are three tasks to complete. Read all the tasks first because you will use the table below for both Task One and Two.

Task one:

Read the story of The Different Scripts used in Ancient Egypt. Many cultures use symbols or shorter words to represent words in their language. In English we use abbreviations. Decipher the following abbreviations.

Nowadays a new shorter language has developed called Text messaging. Where do people use this form of messaging?_______________________

Make your own Cartouche

Write like an Egyptian

You type in your name and they turn it into hieroglyphics. Print them out and compare them. Are there any differences? If there are differences why do you think they are different? Which site do you think might be the more correct one?

 

Go to the Seaworld site, print out the page, see if you can write your name again using their Egyptian Hieroglyphic alphabet. How much different is it to the other ones you have made.

Task Two

In task two find out where scribes were used and what for. Write a short description in the table.

in temples  

Task Three

Click on the Challenge task. You will need to have Shockwave. You will be transcribing some hieroglyphics. There is no written task here.
