Click on the Writing site at the British Museum. There are three tasks to complete. Read all the tasks first because you will use the table below for both Task One and Two.
Read the story of The Different Scripts used in Ancient Egypt. Many cultures use symbols or shorter words to represent words in their language. In English we use abbreviations. Decipher the following abbreviations.

| St. | N.Z. | i.e. | |||
| Mr. | e.g. | ESP | |||
| Mrs. | etc. | ASAP |
Nowadays a new shorter language has developed called Text messaging. Where do people use this form of messaging?_______________________
What do you think these words mean?
| u | @ | Iv | |||
| r | b | plse | |||
| 2 | cn | th | |||

| & | hm | thn | |||
| wz | bcoz | grl | |||
| wot | b4 | hr | |||
