Topic: Nursery Rhyme Sound Makers Contexts: School, Recreational Areas: Materials, ICT, Structures
Year 1-3 Level One
Situation: We are recording some of our favourite poems for the listening post but we would like to make them more interesting
Design Brief: Add interesting sounds to your favourite poem by using the materials on the Technology Table and then record it on the tape-recorder
Specifications: - have at least 4 different sounds
- sound makers must be no bigger than a shoebox
- the sounds must be completely different from each other
Technological Knowledge and Understanding
Objective: Level 1:2a ask questions and share ideas about modifications in familiar technologies
Learning Experiences:

1. experiment with instruments, list key features and differences 
2. read poems and select best option
3. decide what sort of noises/sound/music are needed
4. investigate materials available
5. learn how to use a tape recorder, record, rewind, fast forward, insert and eject a tape

Objective: Level 1:6b identify and gather necessary resources and model and make their preferred solution
Learning Experiences:

1. collect necessary resources
2. itemise materials draw a plan as to how it is going to look

1. discuss in a group your favourite instrument
2. ask people at home what is their favourite musical and report back to school
3. listen to some different fairytales or poems that mention instruments, discuss why music or instruments was used
