Topic: Landscapes Contexts: Business, Environmental, Community Areas: ICT, Product and Process
Year 4-8  Level Two and Three
Situation: inhabitants of our area are unaware of the tourist attractions and history we have in our local community
Design Brief: investigate, plan and present promotional material advertising these attractions and the history of our area
Specifications: decide on specifications together
Technological Knowledge and Understanding
Objective: Level 2:4 identify and discuss ways in which a specific technology is communicated and promoted
Objective: Level 3:4 identify and compare the ways particular technological developments are communicated and promoted to specific groups

Learning Experiences:

1. explore local promotional material available, identify and list type of material and how it is presented, communicated and distributed
2. write letters to the Citizen Advice Bureau asking for information
3. use the Search NZ http://www.searchnz.co.nz/  or Access NZ http://www.accessnz.co.nz/ search engines on the internet to find information
4. visit local facilities like hotels, maraes, mountains etc for the purpose of collecting information (this could be in digital form using cameras)
5. interview local celebrities
6. interview residents that have live in the area for a long time
7. list promotional features and their histories

Technological Capability
Objective: Level 2:5 gather information and identify and discuss needs, opportunities and preferences in their local environment
Objective: Level 3:5 gather and collect information on needs and opportunities in the local environment

Learning Experiences:

1. choose a method of presenting your promotional material
2. select, develop and adapt your presentation to suit informing your local community
3. present information to a small audience, invite feedback
4. re-evaluate and make adaptations to presentation
5. distribute/present final presentation

Technology and Society
Objective: Level 2:7 identify different views about a specific technological development within the local community
Objectives: Level 3:7 identify and consider different views and feelings op people in relation to some specific technological developments or effects

Learning Experiences:

1. justify your choice of promotional material and discuss how you might distribute this information throughout the community
2. explore why certain landmarks are locate where they are positioned now
3. survey the community as to the knowledge of local landmarks
