ICT Skills
Word Processing - creating and inserting own painting & drawing, align objexts, use keyboard shortcuts, present & display finished wrapping paper Database Spreadsheet Multimedia Accessing
Resources:
- NCM Chapter 20
- Totally Tessellated: Escher http://library.thinkquest.org/16661/templates/index.html
-  Microsoft Word - AutoShapes
Learning Sequence:

Session One
- using AutoShapes, draw a triangle
- duplicate it (Ctrl D or press Ctrl and drag the shape with the mouse)
- repeat duplication process and arrange triangles in a pattern
- select each individual one and colour it using Fill Colour and Line Colour

Session Two
- draw a triangle, duplicate it 4 times
- select one triangle, flip it (go to Draw - Rotate and Flip - Flip Horizontal)
- create a pattern using flip, duplicate and colour

Session Three
- select any shape and test how it translates
- add another shape to it
- make a pattern using 2 different shapes, changing colours and flipping

Session Four
- introduce Lines tools
- draw shapes that fit together
- once a shape has been formed, Group it (go to Draw - Group)
- duplicate, reflect and translate original shapes drawn with Draw tools

Session Five
- select a shape from AutoShapes, click on the 3-D button and select a setting
- experiment with colours, other shapes, reflect, rotate, flip and translate

Session Six
-use graphics and shapes together

Assessment Task:
Your brief is to design wrapping paper for a gift or a special occasion. You will need to answer these questions before starting
- who is it for?
- what is the occasion?
- when is the occasion?
- why have you chosen this particular design for this person?
- what role does each team member play in the design and the creation?
- how are you going to organise yourselves?
You must draw a plan of what your design is going to look like before you use the computer. Create the pattern in Word, print out and present to the class.

Assessment
A. describes patterns in terms of reflection & rotational symmetry & translations B. design and make a pattern which involves translation, reflection, or rotation.
