Tips for parents

encourage your children to carry on touch typing. They can download my typing cards and practise those or alternatively buy a typing programme like Mavis Beacon or Eureka Typing instructor. To find out more read my software reviews
children should use the computer for as much of their homework as possible
choose carefully when purchasing software, some are only game value. A good piece of software would be one where children may have to use other resources such as atlases, or dictionaries. "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?' is a good example of that
some of the Logo programmes are marvellous for extending children, such as Microworld or any of the Lego programmes
if you allow your children on the internet ensure that they know how to be safe users
never give out your name, phone number or address to anybody
If they happen to come across an inappropriate site that they know what to do, namely call for a parent
http://www.yahooligans.com/ is a safe site for children to search for information
using computers is like learning how to play tennis, you need to practice. Encourage your children to practise their new skills and use them in their future work in school
